In today's news, I note a new media format for the American Family
Association; they've launched a new "Media Center" with 24-minute
daily programming. I don't have an entry for it below, because it's
long and I'm just trying to get caught up in general and am avoiding
transcripts for the moment, and unlike Concerned Women for America,
they're smart enough not to let you rewind easily in their custom-
wrapped media player. But be aware of this as a new source.
Meanwhile, the scariest thing in this entire report is a video from
the "Christians United for Israel" tour, which features former House
Speaker Tom Delay (R-TX) and Joe Lieberman (former D, now I-CT)
getting down with some serious crazy.

But also... Concerned Women for America is running the "lesbian rape
gang" fraud all-out. Matt Barber and Peter LaBarbera go at the
gaybashing for a good long time in ways that left me genuinely
nauseated. See the starred entry below; I made a transcription.
_Warning:_ this story will be triggery as all hell for some readers.

And now, today's news.

lj:dogemperor is writing a series of articles on DailyKOS about the
"parallel economy" - the businesses most involved in Dominionist
politics and social engineering. Parts one and two are up. Part one
includes extensive quotations from the statement of faith you're
required to support to be listed; no queers, of course, but also
feminism? Demonic. Literally. And it gets worse. Definitely worth
reading;

Race to the Bottom, Part 1: Senator Brownback blasts former
Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney for not being anti-gay enough.
Press release wars ensue. First, Senator Brownback's;

Race to the Bottom, Part 2: And then, Mitt Romney's. Let's watch them
try to out anti-gay each other! Fun;

Texas governor Rick Perry (R) has appointed a Creationist to head the
Texas State Board of Education; yes, really; he's explicitly anti-
intellectual and considers many sciences to be "anti-Christian";

A video from the "Christians United for Israel Tour" is really quite
remarkable - you too can hear former Speaker of the House Tom Delay
say that it's about the return of Jesus, and hear rank-and-file
attendees talk about how much they look forward to armageddon, and
how Satan is controlling the Moslems, and watch Senator Joe Lieberman
(former D, now I-CT) cheerlead for a pre-emptive attack on Iran and
talk about his _dear friend_ former Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA),
notorious theocrat. Seriously, watch this video;

American Family Association ACTION ITEM to condemn Ford Motor for
being a sponsor at Seattle Pride; I note with amusement that Ford
Motor reported a profit this past quarter, for the first time in a
while;

OneNewsNow - the American Family Association news service - runs an
article condemning the Virginia Educational Association for endorsing
non-discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in employment;
OneNewsNow, the AFA, and all the rest of the theocons are, obviously,
against it, as they support explicit government discrimination
against GBLT people;

OneNewsNow's reader poll reports that 91.16% of readers think that
schools resisting the anti-gay group PFOX are "part of the anti-
Christian culture prevalent in many public school districts"; the
poll options are pretty funny, in that sad way;

OneNewsNow - the AFA news service - runs an ACTION ITEM to support
"decency" to broadcast television, condemning "so-called 'freedom of
the speech' of the airwaves"; it's thinly wrapped as an article, but
it's obvious an ACTION ITEM;

American Family Association ACTION ITEM against S1105, which adds
"sexual orientation" and "gender identity" to US hate crimes laws;
they are, of course, against it, saying it "establish[es] homosexuals
as a special class of people and would give them special rights,"
which is, of course, a lie. And is, for that matter, the standard
lie. They even go out of their way to state that if gay people kill a
straight person because that person is straight, it wouldn't apply
because it's homosexual-only. Again, _this is a lie_. However, that
never stops them. Also, they claim that S. 1105 "will likely lead to
the criminalization and civil sanction of the biblical view of
homosexuality";

American Family Association ACTION ITEM to support an unspecified
"decency" bill to be introduced by Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS), a
theoconservative favourite;

AFA ACTION ITEM to demand restoration of funding to abstinence-only
sexual education programmes, saying that without it, 14 year olds
will be told to go have sex;

Traditional Values Coalition ACTION ITEM against S.1105, which adds
sexual orientation and gender identity to Federal hate crimes laws;
they assert it will "endorse deviant and criminal behaviors" and lays
"the legal foundation and framework to investigate, prosecute and
persecute pastors, business owners, and anyone else whose actions are
based upon and reflect the truths found in the Bible"; interestingly,
the TVC specifically is concerned that incitement to violence against
queers would be included in this bill. Most of the theocon groups
pretend they are against incitement to violence against GBLT people;
not so much TVC, apparently;

The Traditional Values Coalition's second ACTION ITEM against S.1105
(see above), and also condemns nondiscrimination in Federal
employment hiring (saying it "will grant federally-protected status
to homosexuals, cross-dressers, drag queens, transsexuals and she-
males") and ENDA, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, with similar
language;

TVC condemns - yet again - including sexual orientation in Federal
hiring anti-discrimination policy, saying it "endorses criminal
activity such as pedophilia and necrophilia"; I think the big point
of this is to make "sexual orientation" mean "paedophilia" and
"necrophilia" to theoconservatives, so they react automatically
against the term;

And a fourth TVC condemnation of including sexual orientation in
Federal hiring anti-discrimination policy; the bill in question is HR
2232; they basically just repeat the same talking points. I think the
big point of this is to make "sexual orientation" mean "paedophilia"
and "necrophilia" to theoconservatives, so they react automatically
against the term;

Traditional Values Coalition posts a fake version of HR2232 which
defines "sexual orientation" to mean, "apotemnophilia, asphyxophilia,
autogeynphilia, bisexual, corprophilia, exhibitionism, fetishism/
sexual fetishism, frotteurism, heterosexuality, homosexual, gender
identity disorder, gerontosexuality, incest, kleptophilia,
klismaphilia, necrophilia, partialism, pedophilia, prostitution,
sexual masochism, sexual sadism, telephone scatalogia, toucherism,
transgenderism, transsexual, transvestite, transvestic fetishism,
urophilia, voyeurism, or zoophilia/bestiality"; HR2232 is the bill
which would reject discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation
in Federal hiring. They call this a "clarification of terms"; I call
it "posting a fake version of the bill which includes all kinds of
crap not actually in it";

TVC demands approval of judicial nominee Leslie Southwick;

***** Concerned Women for America promotes the "Lesbian Gang Rapes"
story that was on a Memphis station and turned into "hundreds of
lesbian gangs raping young girls across the country" segment on Bill
O'Reilly; they condemn GBLT groups for opposing the story; the key
thing to remember is that all or nearly all of this is _false_. Bill
O'Reilly has even disclaimed it. It's not actually true. But they'll
be flogging it for a year. Concerned Women for America's Matt Barber
discusses it with Peter LaBarbera of "Americans for Truth" in a
festival of "violent lesbian" gaybashing, with some truly nauseating
lines including some about how if this were heterosexuals doing the
raping, it'd be national news. Seriously, I nearly threw up at that
line;

CWA: "Homosexual Immorality: What's the Debate?" CWA's Matt Barber
condemns candidates for debating on Logo, saying that there's queers
are "both immoral and destructive to the lives, health and spiritual
well being of those who choose to participate in those behaviors."
Note the separation of "behaviours" from GBLT people; they like to
pretend that there's not actually such a thing as a lesbian or gay
person, just a straight person who is diseased and perverted. Oh, and
next it'll be NAMBLA, because you need to get the QUEERS WANT TO RAPE
YOUR CHILDREN AND TURN THEM INTO FAGS meme back in again;

CWA: "Iraq War Vet 'Spit On' by Democrat Senators." This is a lie.
What the story is actually about is a judicial nominee not getting a
vote. Note, however, how the headline is designed to create a false
image of vets being spat upon, as per the Vietnam legend. The
impression they want to create is "Democrat Senators hate America and
The Troops and spit on them to show it";

Concerned Women for America's Matt barber is interviewed about Chief
Executive Bush's anti-gay Surgeon General nominee;

CWA endorses "Protecting Children From Indecent Programming Act";

Faith and Freedom Network picks up the "lesbian rape gang" story and
promotes it heavily, quoting Peter LaBarbera (see above) and Focus on
the Family, calling the lack of coverage of this _false_ story of
hundreds of lesbian gangs raping other girls to "turn them gay"
"Orwellian";

Faith and Freedom Network protests Washington State civil unions law;

FFN calls for legislators who didn't vote to stop all Federal moneys
from going to any Planned Parenthood services (general women's
reproductive health care, which is the major part of their work) to
be ousted; they _also_ want a reaffirmation of the state DOMA, so
they can target people not anti-gay enough;

FFN calls anti-PFOX reaction by a Maryland school another case of
"tolerance" equalling "censorship."

Dominionism's "parallel economy", Pt. 1: The dominionist business
directory.
by dogemperor.livejournal.com
Fri Jul 20, 2007 at 05:34:12 AM PDT

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/7/20/8113/02104 (part 1)
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/7/23/82357/4096 (part 2)

I'm now beginning a new multi-part series focusing on a facet rarely
touched upon in research on dominionist groups--the rather extensive
dominionist "parallel economy" set up as an alternative to "secular
businesses". As you will see, the "parallel economy" is highly
influential as both a funding source for dominionism and as a way of
isolating dominionists--and it is quite extensive, running from hobby
stores to entire "yellow pages" type directories to doctors to media
to "charity affinity" programs to even kid's dolls.

Part 1 will focus on a particular facet of the dominionist parallel
economy--the dominionist business directory, often marketed as the
"Christian Yellow Pages", "Shepherd's Pages", etc. Such guides are a
major resource for dominionists--and, as we will see, also a major
resource for intel on dominionist corporate funders.

[...]

We believe in an ardent effort to free local churches from the
bondage of feminism, itself a product of demonic influence, used to
control and beset the church in order to weaken the church and defeat
God's purpose for local churches; thus having rendered them of
limited ability to proclaim and practice God's commandments and lead
others to do so, having exchanged the truth for a lie for the sake of
numbers rather than quality of teaching as it affects women whose
biblical role is clearly defined..

Men and woman should walk, talk, look, dress, and act in a way which
reflects scriptures including Titus 2:3-5; Proverbs 31, and 1
Corinthians. 11 (key verses being 14-15 and 4-5). We reject as heresy
that God only looks on the inside and doesn't care about the way His
children look on the outside His having given so many examples of
proper dress and conduct in His Holy Word.

Christian children should be raised by faith-based parents according
to biblical ideals and morals and who support the use of Faith-based
education, whenever possible, that teaches Children biblical ideals
and morals as well as the academics needed for productivity in life.
The Christian life cannot be about a day or two, or a worship service
or two. but rather an all encompassing faith that brings in line all
other actions and activities..

We reject as a false and heretical concept "homosexual Christians"
there being no such person. Acceptance of such, or teaching such, is
a direct confirmation of any person or church, having been a false
professor. The Holy Spirit prevents true believers from believing or
proclaiming this blasphemous lie. Every Christian, everywhere, should
do all in their ability from witnessing, to voting in political
elections, to purchasing voting stock in companies in order to
prevent the spread of this demonic defiance of God.

EXCLUSIVE: Brownback Campaign Rips Romney on Boy Scouts Position
July 23, 2007
Christian Broadcasting Network

http://www.cbn.com/CBNnews/200024.aspx

The Brody File is the first to receive a press release that will go
out later today from the Brownback campaign.

It is a frontal assault on Mitt Romney.

Basically, the Brownback campaign is blasting Romney for his past
comments about the Boy Scouts. You can read the press release below.

The title is as follows:

Romney Hostile to Boy Scout Leadership and Principles: Supports Gay
Scout Leaders, was Cold to Scout Participation in Olympics.

[...]

In his 1994 Senate race in Massachusetts and later as CEO of the Salt
Lake City Olympic Committee, Mitt Romney opposed Boy Scout officials
who wished to prevent gay men from becoming troop leaders and was
hostile to Scout participation in the 2002 Olympics.

In a 1994 debate with Ted Kennedy, Mitt Romney offered his support
for gay scout leaders:

"I feel that all people should be allowed to participate in the Boy
Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation."

The comments from Romney, who holds a law degree, came six years
before the June 2000 Supreme Court ruling that allowed the Boy Scouts
to bar troop leaders based on sexual orientation. The ruling cited
the constitutional rights of freedom of association and speech.

[...]

"What part of morally straight doesn't Mitt Romney understand?" said
Larry Cirigiano, a Catholic activist in Massahusetts. "Boy Scout
'leaders' are supposed to be role models. Open homosexuals should not
be leading young Boy Scouts anywhere."

Senator Brownback has always supported the right of the Boy Scouts of
America to determine the best leaders for young scouts.

Romney Campaign Responds to Brownback Boy Scout Attack
Christian Broadcasting Network
July 23, 2007

http://www.cbn.com/CBNnews/200279.aspx

The campaign for Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney has
responded to the blatant attack from the Brownback campaign. If
you're not up to speed on it, click here but basically the Brownback
campaign came out with a press release slamming Romney with this
headline on their release: "Romney Hostile to Boy Scout Leadership
and Principles: Supports Gay Scout Leaders, was Cold to Scout
Participation in Olympics."

[...]

"Governor Romney has been the most prominent, leading advocate of the
family values platform in this campaign. His consistent advocacy on
these issues has resulted in an important growth of support for our
campaign. Some other campaigns will resort to negative attacks and
distortions which is an unfortunate reflection on their campaign's
conduct. Governor Romney has been a supporter of the Boy Scouts and
has said he supports their right to decide scouting policies." In
their release, the Bownback campaign said, "Senator Brownback has
always supported the right of the Boy Scouts of America to determine
the best leaders for young scouts."

Texas: Doomed
Bad Astronomy

http://www.badastronomy.com/bablog/2007/07/25/texas-doomed/

Via the DefCon blog comes that news that Texas governor Rick Perry
has appointed a creationist to head the Texas State Board of Education.

I’ll give you a moment to clean off your screen. Yes, you read that
right.

At first I thought, "No, not even a politician in Texas could
possibly do something that dumb, that contrary to reality, that
horrifying to their kids. DefCon Blog must have gotten it wrong!"

And then I did a few searches. DefCon Blog got it right. According to
the Dallas Morning News:

"Texas Freedom Network president Kathy Miller … noted that in 2003,
Dr. McLeroy was one of four board members who voted against proposed
high school biology textbooks because he felt their coverage of
evolution was “too dogmatic” and did not include possible flaws in
Charles Darwin’s theory of how life on Earth evolved from lower forms."

That is straight out of the creationist tactics notebook. In case
you’re not sure, the article goes on to quote McLeroy:

“It is wrong to teach opinion as fact,” he said.

[...]

Here is an Op-Ed talking about McLeroy’s appointment as Board chair:

"In 2001, McLeroy and a majority of the board rejected the only
Advanced Placement textbook for high school environmental science
because its views on global warming and other events didn’t comport
with the beliefs of the board majority. The book wasn’t factual and
was anti-American and anti-Christian, the majority claimed.
Meanwhile, dozens of colleges and universities were using the
textbook, including Baylor University, the nation’s largest Baptist
college.

"In 2003, McLeroy voted against approving biology textbooks that
included a full-scale scientific account of evolutionary theory."

Rapture Ready: The Unauthorized Christians United for Israel Tour
Posted July 26, 2007 | 02:20 AM (EST)
Max Blumenthal

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/max-blumenthal/rapture-ready-the-
unauth_b_57826.html

On July 16, I attended Christians United for Israel's annual
Washington-Israel Summit. Founded by San Antonio-based megachurch
pastor John Hagee, CUFI has added the grassroots muscle of the
Christian right to the already potent Israel lobby. Hagee and his
minions have forged close ties with the Bush White House and members
of Congress from Sen. Joseph Lieberman to Sen. John McCain. In its
call for a unilateral military attack on Iran and the expansion of
Israeli territory, CUFI has found unwavering encouragement from
traditional pro-Israel groups like AIPAC and elements of the Israeli
government.

But CUFI has an ulterior agenda: its support for Israel derives from
the belief of Hagee and his flock that Jesus will return to Jerusalem
after the battle of Armageddon and cleanse the earth of evil. In the
end, all the non-believers - Jews, Muslims, Hindus, mainline
Christians, etc. - must convert or suffer the torture of eternal
damnation. Over a dozen CUFI members eagerly revealed to me their
excitement at the prospect of Armageddon occurring tomorrow. Among
the rapture ready was Republican Former House Majority Leader Tom
DeLay. None of this seemed to matter to Lieberman, who delivered a
long sermon hailing Hagee as nothing less than a modern-day Moses.
Lieberman went on to describe Hagee's flock as "even greater than the
multitude Moses commanded."

ACTION ALERT
July 19, 2007

http://www.afa.net/ford071907.htm

Having just sponsored the Gay Pride Festival in Cleveland, Ohio, Ford
Motor Company followed up by sponsoring the Seattle Gay Pride Parade
held June 24 in the city’s downtown.

To the right is a picture from the parade, which was linked from the
SeattlePride.org Web site. The picture shows a “marriage” float with
two men, dressed in tuxedos, standing atop a wedding cake. Ford felt
a float pushing same-sex marriage was worthy of their financial support.

On June 7, AFA asked Chairman Bill Ford for a meeting to discuss
their support of this lifestyle. Chairman Ford has not responded.

For more information on why AFA and scores of other organizations are
boycotting Ford, click here.

Take Action

Forward this e-mail to your family and friends, and especially to
your pastor. Pastors need to be aware of Ford’s support for the
homosexual agenda.

Virginia pro-family group sounds warning about 'liberal' state educators
OneNewsNow (the news service of the American Family Association)
July 26, 2007
Ed Thomas

http://www.onenewsnow.com/2007/07/virginia_profamily_group_sound.php

An email message from the Virginia Education Association (VEA)
reportedly alerts its members to a new concerted partnership with the
state's largest homosexual rights lobby to add "sexual orientation"
to Virginia's official non-discrimination and employment policies.

A notice from the state's largest pro-family coalition, the Family
Foundation of Virginia, says the subject of the recently sent email
alert informs recipients of a new resolution -- NBI 31 -- passed at
the VEA's yearly convention this past spring. NBI 31 involves joining
with the homosexual lobby organization Equality Virginia on the new
policy implementation. The Foundation says the email alert also
encourages readers to use the activist website to lobby legislators
on the issue.

Pro-decency bill would restore gov't authority to fine for on-air
profanities
OneNewsNow.com [The American Family Association news service]
Allie Martin
July 26, 2007

http://www.onenewsnow.com/2007/07/prodecency_bil__would_restore_.php

A pro-decency measure that has been approved by a Senate committee
would restore the government's authority to fine broadcasters for
airing profanities.

The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee approved
the bill that would reverse an appeals court ruling which struck down
the Federal Communications Commission's new profanity policy. The
Protecting Children from Indecent Programming Act (S. 1780),
sponsored by Senators Jay Rockefeller (D-West Virginia) and Mark
Pryor (D-Arkansas), would force the FCC to maintain a policy that a
single word or image may be considered indecent. The bill was
proposed after an appeals court ruled the FCC did not have the
authority to enforce a new, tougher profanity policy.

Pat Trueman, special counsel with the Alliance Defense Fund, says the
FCC began enforcing indecency laws a few years ago, when its
leadership changed.

"Kevin Martin became the chairman of that commission [in 2005]
and ... immediately began enforcing indecency law," Trueman recalls,
"and he's put, frankly, the fear of God in the broadcasters because
they no longer can do whatever they want. We've got to get behind FCC
chairman Kevin Martin and the other commissioners who want to help us
clean up network television."

Reacting to the Committee's passage of the bill, Martin said that
members of Congress "stated once again what we on the Commission and
every parent already knows: even a single word or image can indeed be
indecent."

But Trueman says the proposal faces much opposition -- some of that
from the sponsors' own party. "The reality is, many Democrats do not
support this bill," the attorney observes. "They are for complete so-
called 'freedom of the speech' of the airwaves. And many are heavily
paid through PAC money by the network broadcasters and their friends.
So there's a great reluctance to pass it in the full House or the
full Senate."

For that reason, Trueman says it is crucial that concerned Christians
contact their congressman and senator about the pro-decency measure.

Senate could vote on the “hate crimes” bill as early as today
Urgent: Your phone call to your senators needed today!
American Family Association
Online as of 26 July 2007

http://www3.capwiz.com/afanet/callalert/index.tt?
alertid=10009606&type=CO

The Senate will be voting, as early as today, on S.1105, the so-
called "hate crimes" bill. Under S.1105, acts of crime committed
against members of certain protected classes - including those who
identify themselves by their "actual or perceived sexual orientation
or gender identity" - would warrant more intense prosecution and
greater penalties than the very same acts committed against
heterosexuals. [Editor's note: this is a lie. Heterosexuality is a
sexual orientation and is not exempted by the bill.]

It would establish homosexuals as a special class of people and give
them special rights. [Editor's note: This is a lie; see above.]

It is no stretch to argue that S. 1105, if enacted, will embody a
national policy that will likely lead to the criminalization and
civil sanction of the biblical view of homosexuality.

Read these two stories - The tragic story of Jesse Dirkhising and
Woman's death at hands of 'gay' her fault, says lawyer - to see how
homosexuals murdered heterosexuals but were not charged with a hate
crime. Had the roles been reversed - the victims homosexual and the
perpetrators heterosexual - they could have been charged. Under S.
1105, homosexuals are a "protected class" while heterosexuals are
not. [Editor's note: this is a lie. Heterosexuality is a sexual
orientation, and is not exempted by the bill. Homosexuality is not
explicitly mentioned in the bill, either; it refers to sexual
orientation.]

It is vitally important for you to call your two senators today and
tell them to vote against S.1105, the "hate crimes" bill.

Support Senator Brownback in the fight against filth on TV
Urgent!! Please contact your senators today!
American Family Association ACTION ALERT
Online as of 26 July 2007

http://www3.capwiz.com/afanet/issues/alert/?alertid=9997676&type=CO

Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas will soon introduce legislation to
curb the excessive use of violence and the use of profanity on TV. He
needs your support now!

By a 2-1 vote, a liberal federal court recently struck down the TV
decency law. In essence, the court said your children (and you) don't
deserve protection from the filth on TV. Like the ACLU, the court
felt that broadcast TV should be allowed to show anything anytime!

Author and culture critic Chuck Colson has written a column
concerning this situation. Click here to read Colson's column.

The Brownback legislation (amendments to a current bill) addresses
two seperate issues regarding the enforcement of federal FCC rules.

The first amendment establishes the clear intention from Congress
that the use of the "f-word" and "s-word" on broadcast television are
in violation of decency laws. It is designed to allow the FCC to
enforce the law without allowing liberal judges to misinterpret the
law and side with the television executives.

The second amendment directs the FCC to establish rules regarding
excessive violence. Currently, broadcast decency laws to no address
violence, and therefore the FCC has no authority to fine network
stations for violence.

Take Action

Please enter your zip code and click "GO" to create and send an email
your two senators today. Tell them to support the Brownback amendment!

If you think our efforts are worthy, would you please support us with
a small gift? Thank you for caring enough to get involved.

Please help us get this information into the hands of as many people
as possible by forwarding it to your family and friends.

The Democratic leaders of the House Energy & Commerce Committee have
reportedly decided to kill the abstinence education program this year
in favor of so-called “comprehensive” programs that emphasize “safe
sex” and contraception.

Abstinence education programs have been shown to effectively reduce
the risks of out-of-wedlock pregnancy and the incidence of sexually
transmitted diseases. They teach teenagers that saving sex until
marriage and remaining faithful afterwards is the best choice for
health and happiness. However, the Democratic leadership wants to
replace that message with federally-funded contraceptive sex
education programs that fail to teach young people about the dangers
of STDs and extra-marital sex, as well as the inefficiency of
contraception. As a result, we could end up with programs like
Boulder High School in Colorado where a guest speaker told students
as young as 14 to go have sex.

The National Abstinence Education Association is touting a new Zogby
International poll that shows American parents favor abstinence
education over comprehensive sex education by a two-to-one margin.
Click here for more information on the survey.

Congressman Lee Terry who serves on the House Energy & Commerce
Committee has written a strong letter urging his Congressional
colleagues to fund abstinence education programs in their current form.

Take Action

Urgent - the life or death of funding for abstinence education is a
very important one. Enter your zip code and click “GO” where you will
be shown the phone number for your representative's office and
appropriate suggested message - one message if he/she is a member of
the House Energy & Commerce Committee, and a different message if he/
she is not. This is urgent -- please act today! Abstinence is the
healthiest message and practice for teens. These programs teach youth
how to avoid sexual activity and make wise health choices.

U.S. Senate set to effectively endorse deviant and criminal behaviors
under hate crimes amendment
Traditional Values Coalition

http://www.traditionalvalues.org/modules.php?sid=3112

July 13, 2007 - In a shameless act, liberal Senators Ted Kennedy (D-
MA) and Gordon Smith (R-OR) filed their anti-Christian "hate crimes"
legislation as an amendment to the Department of Defense
Reauthorization Bill. This bill is currently being debated in the
U.S. Senate and a vote could come as early as Friday July 13th or
next week.

This amendment makes sexual orientation a protected class yet, sexual
orientation is not defined either in this legislation, or in federal
law generally.

What Are The Effects of the So-Called Hates Crimes Amendment

This so-called “hate crimes” amendment will make 30 sexual
orientations into federally-protected minority groups! The American
Psychiatric Association (APA) has published 30 such sexual
orientations that, because of Congress’s failure to define “sexual
orientation,” will arguably be protected under this legislation.
These 30 orientations are listed in the APA’s Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV), which is used by
physicians, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and psychiatrists
throughout the U.S. It is considered the dictionary of mental
disorders. Those 30 sexual orientations include behaviors that are
felonies or misdemeanors in most states or can result in death.

Serious Threat to Religious Liberties. This language begins to lay
the legal foundation and framework to investigate, prosecute and
persecute pastors, business owners, and anyone else whose actions are
based upon and reflect the truths found in the Bible.

So-called “hate speech” which could include a pastor’s sermon, an
author, citizen activist who writes a letter to the editor, or
individual speech against homosexual behaviors, could become the
target of zealous pro-homosexual federal prosecutors!

During the House Committee debate, Representative Artur Davis
admitted that the “hate-crimes” bill could be used to prosecute
pastors for their sermons if they incite or are an “inducement” to
violence.

H.R. 1592 is based upon a false premise: That there’s an epidemic of
so-called “hate crimes” against homosexuals and drag queens that
needs federal involvement for local law enforcement officials!

Immediate Action is needed: Contact your (2) U.S. Senators and tell
them to oppose the so-called hate crimes amendment to the Department
of Defense Reauthorization Bill. because:

Congress’s refusal to define “sexual orientation” creates the
prospect of legal protection for every form of sexual perversion
recognized by the psychiatric profession. By its silence, Congress is
effectively endorsing such deviant and criminal behaviors as
beastiality, pedophilia, and necrophilia as “sexual orientations”
protected by federal law.

It lays the legal foundation and framework to investigate, prosecute
and persecute pastors, business owners, and anyone else whose actions
are based upon and reflect the truths found in the Bible.

Legislative Update On: S. 1105, The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes
Prevention Act (Matthew Shepard Act) Of 2007
Traditional Values Coalition

http://www.traditionalvalues.org/modules.php?sid=3113

July 18, 2007 – The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act
pushed by Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and Gordon Smith (R-OR) was
going to be attached to the Defense Authorization bill this week. But
this tactic to push the homosexual agenda changed last evening when
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) pulled the DOD bill from the
schedule!

“At this point, it is unclear how Kennedy and Smith will sneak S.
1105 into a larger bill,” said TVC Executive Director Andrea
Lafferty. “They may attempt to attach S. 1105 to other legislation or
the DOD bill when it comes back on the schedule for a vote. We just
don’t know at this point. What we do know is that citizen activists
must call or email their Senators immediately and demand that this
dangerous bill be killed.”

TVC’s detailed report on S. 1105 explains why the Kennedy-Smith hate
crime bill is not only unnecessary, but if enacted will establish a
legal precedent to begin going after “hate speech” – which is any
negative comments about homosexuals.

It is considered the dictionary of mental
disorders. Those 30 sexual orientations include behaviors that are
felonies or misdemeanors in most states or can result in death.

persecute pastors, business owners, and anyone else whose actions are
based upon and reflect the truths found in the Bible. So-called “hate
speech” which could include a pastor’s sermon, an author, citizen
activist who writes a letter to the editor, or individual speech
against homosexual behaviors, could become the target of zealous pro-
homosexual federal prosecutors! During the House Committee debate on
H.R. 1592 (Conyers’ clone bill of S. 1105) Representative Artur Davis
admitted that the “hate-crimes” bill could be used to prosecute
pastors for their sermons if they incite or are an “inducement” to
violence.

S. 1105 is based upon a false premise: That there’s an epidemic of so-

federal involvement for local law enforcement officials!

The S. 1105 report is available here: http://
www.traditionalvalues.org/pdf_files/
S1105_HateCrimeReport2007July18075.php

The House has already passed the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes
Prevention Act, H.R. 1592, which was sponsored by Rep. John Conyers.
During hearings on H.R. 1592, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) described how
this hate crime bill would be used to criminalize speech that is
critical of homosexual goals.

TVC Chairman Rev. Louis P. Sheldon aired a video alert on H.R. 1592
when it was up for a vote. He noted that this legislation (virtually
identical to Kennedy-Smith) will be a serious threat to religious
freedom and speech. Yet, the House passed it on the National Day of
Prayer in May.

Lafferty pointed out that our exposure of the fraudulent “findings”
in H.R. 1592 forced Conyers to quietly remove the justification for
the legislation by the time it was voted on in the House. TVC had
exposed numerous frauds that were being used to justify the need for
this so-called hate crimes. Those frauds are still in the Kennedy-
Smith bill!

Two More Hate Crimes/Sexual Orientation Bills Being Pushed
Liberals and their homosexual/drag queen allies are pushing for
passage of two additional bills that will grant federally-protected
status to homosexuals, cross-dressers, drag queens, transsexuals and
she-males.

The Clarification Of Federal Employment Protections Act, H.R. 2232,
will create federally-protected status for “sexual orientation” and
“gender identity” for federal employees! Since “sexual orientation”
is not defined in the law, it will effectively cover the 30 sexual
orientations listed by the American Psychiatric Association in its
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).

The second bill is the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA),
(H.R. 2015) sponsored by homosexual activist Rep. Barney Frank (D-
MA). ENDA will force any business with more than 15 employees to
“protect” homosexuals, drag queens, she-males, etc. in employment. It
will criminalize criticism of homosexuality or other bizarre sex
practices. Employers and employees who speak out against these
behaviors can be forced to attend sensitivity training programs.

TVC is working on an updated report on ENDA. This pro-homosexual/drag
queen bill has been reintroduced in every new session of Congress for
more than 10 years.

Waxman-Davis Bill Opens Door to Requiring Protections
Traditional Values Coalition

http://www.traditionalvalues.org/modules.php?sid=3110

July 11, 2007 - Undefined “Sexual Orientation” Protections Could
Cover Criminal Acts

Washington, DC – A bill introduced by Representatives Henry Waxman (D-
CA) and Tom Davis (R-VA) includes coverage for undefined “sexual
orientation” and effectively endorses criminal activity such as
pedophilia and necrophilia.

According to a new report from the Traditional Values Coalition, the
Clarification of Federal Employment Protections Act (HR 2232)
“clarifies nothing while it opens the door to licensing all types of
aberrant behavior.”

“Sexual orientation is a wild card term which will allow all sorts of
mischief to occur in the federal workforce as a precursor to
expanding these misguided and ill-conceived policies to the rest of
America’s workforce,” said TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty.

H.R. 2232: The ‘Clarification Of Federal Employment Protections Act’
Traditional Values Coalition

http://www.traditionalvalues.org/modules.php?sid=3109

July 11, 2007 - U.S. Representatives Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Tom
Davis (R-VA) have introduced H.R. 2232, the Clarification of Federal
Employment Protections Act.

This legislation will amend United States Code dealing with
discrimination against federal employees by adding “sexual
orientation” to 5 U.S.C. § 2302(b)(10). Yet, “sexual orientation” is
not defined either in this legislation or in federal law generally.

Once “sexual orientation” is added to 5 U.S.C. § 2302(b)(10),
homosexuals, cross-dressers, transsexuals and anyone else with a
different “sexual orientation” can demand special access to restrooms
and shower facilities. They can demand that other employees deemed
not sufficiently supportive of their “orientation” be forced to
attend diversity training programs that will affirm homosexuality,
cross-dressing, transsexualism and other gender confused behaviors as
normal.

Congress’ refusal to define “sexual orientation” creates the prospect
of legal protection for every form of sexual perversion recognized by
the psychiatric profession. By its silence, Congress is effectively
endorsing such deviant and criminal behaviors as beastiality,
pedophilia, and necrophilia as “sexual orientations” protected by
federal law.

Judge Leslie Southwick -- Don't Shoot Down This Iraq War Veteran
Senators: Don’t Shoot Down This
Iraq War Veteran For Federal Bench!
Judge Leslie Southwick deserves respect and an up or down vote.
Online as of 26 July 2007

http://www.traditionalvalues.org/modules.php?sid=3115

Washington, DC – “On behalf of 43,000 churches associated with the
Traditional Values Coalition, I urge the Senate Judiciary Committee
to support an immediate up or down vote on the nomination of Judge
Leslie Southwick to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth
Circuit,” said TVC’s Executive Director Andrea Lafferty today.
“President Bush nominated Judge Southwick to serve on the 5th Circuit
Court on January 9, 2007.

Lafferty notes that Judge Southwick is an ABA-endorsed judge, who has
a stellar record in Mississippi and in the military. He has served
with distinction as a Mississippi state appellate court judge and
wrote nearly 1,000 opinions in an estimated 7,000 cases. The
Mississippi State Bar honored him in 2004 with its Judicial
Excellence Award.

She stated: “Feeling strongly about defending our nation from Islamic
terrorism, Judge Southwick left his position on the Mississippi Court
of Appeals and volunteered to serve in Iraq with the Mississippi
National Guard. Earlier, he had requested and received an age waiver
in order to enlist! In 2003, he transferred from a non-combat unit to
the 155th Separate Armor Brigade with the full knowledge that he
would likely be sent to Iraq. His unit was, in fact, sent to Iraq
near Najaf in August 2004.

“In 2006, he transferred back to the Joint Force Headquarters in the
Mississippi National Guard. For his honorable service, he received a
letter of commendation from Major General Harold A. Cross, the
Adjutant General of Mississippi.

“By anyone’s standard, Judge Southwick is eminently qualified to
serve on the Fifth Circuit. In fact, his willingness to volunteer to
go into harm’s way for America is an indication of his character and
patriotism.

“Traditional Values Coalition is asking for an immediate action on
Judge Southwick. We urge the Senate Judiciary Committee to see that
Judge Southwick is treated fairly and respectfully and receives an up
or down vote. Don’t shoot down this Iraq war veteran.”

Lesbian Gang Rapes in Memphis-Area Schools
Concerned Women for America
7/26/2007

http://www.cwfa.org/articles/13499/CFI/education/index.htm

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has
threatened to sue a Memphis, Tennessee television station in its
attempts to block the broadcast of a story on lesbian high school
gangs that are viciously raping straight female students. Thankfully,
the Memphis TV station aired the story, although it has been spiked
by other news outlets across the nation. Matt Barber, CWA’s Policy
Director for Cultural Issues spoke with Pete LaBarbera, president and
founder of Americans for Truth. [Warning: content not suitable for
children.]

To see the video clip visit: http://blip.tv/file/165392/ . For more
on this story visit http://americansfortruth.com/news/must-viewing-
lesbian-gangs-raping-girls-glaad-tries-to-block-airing-of-news-
segment.html

[Peter LaBarbera: "Well, what's going on is there evidently has been
some harassing and even criminal behaviour by aggressive lesbians in
schools. And we're reporting what was reported by a Memphis TV
station months ago. Of course, the media didn't pick up on it, but
Bill O'Reilly did over at Fox News, he reported on a story that
Memphis did about aggressive groups of lesbians who are even going so
far as to rape girls in schools to quote "turn them in to lesbians."
And similar behaviour has been seen in other big cities, largely in
inner-city schools, and we're trying to get to the bottom of it, and
of course the gay activists are just pooh-poohing the whole thing and
attacked O'Reilly." [Editor's note: The story was completely false.
Bill O'Reilly has even disclaimed it, which is unusual.]

Kleider: [This came from a Memphis TV station originally?]

LaBarbera: "Well, the story was fascinating, and you can access it
off our website at AmericansforTruth.org, but it's a real interesting
story, at the end of the story, they said how there's other schools -
and they had a list of schools in the Memphis area - that had this
problem. The story featured a gang policewoman who was dealing with
gang activity, and she was the one - she was an African-American
policewoman who was talking about this gang problem. Now the
fascinating thing, Martha, was that GLAAD, which stands for the Gay
and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, went so far as to threaten
to sue the station, to not broadcast that story. So GLAAD, which is
the powerful media organisation, was desperately trying to squelch
the story and completely block it from airing. The TV station to its
credit did air the report, but then interestingly, a tremendous story
like this, there was no hardly any followup in the rest of the media
until O'Reilly broadcast it later on."

Matt Barber: "And I saw that report on Bill O'Reilly, Pete, and
apparently they're referring to themselves as GTO, or Gays Taking
Over. And I've read several accounts - apparently there are witnesses
coming forward, there are people, victims who have been raped by
these lesbian gangs, coming forward, yet GLAAD is so concerned about
keeping any negative information from getting out about homosexual
activities that they would actually try to censor media reports on
this." [Editor's note: The story was _false_.]

LaBarbera: "Yeah. And it's interesting there to look at the tactics.
What they're saying is that - O'Reilly had a report in which
apparently there were a couple of factual mistakes [Ed. note: like
virtually everything in the report] and so what the gays are doing is
ridiculing the idea that there's thousands, or, and we don't know how
many there are, all I know is that this is a problem, I knew it was a
problem because I had spoken with Linda Jernegin, who I believe you
know Matt, who's a former lesbian, African-American, and she told me
a couple of years ago how she was asked to speak at a Chicago area
school because there was this phenomenon of girls - these lesbians -
they take a girl into the restroom, this is horrifying, it's hard to
describe, but they orally rape a girl in the restroom to turn her
into a lesbian, something like that, basically a lesbian rape was
happening, and she was asked to speak at the school, then she was
denied - she insisted that she give her Christian testimony because
that's part of how she came out of lesbianism, and they didn't want
her to give the Christian aspect of her testimony, and so she didn't
speak. But there's obviously a problem here of bullying by lesbians.
We don't know if it's a thousand gangs, we don't know if it's a
hundred, we don't know if it's five. But the point is, if it were on
the other side, and we were talking about raging bands of
heterosexual boys, raping girls, to turn them straight, you better
believe there'd be media attention on this."

[Editor's note: ... I want to have a note here. I'm trying to. All I
can do is point to the several recent cases of videotaped gang-rapes
of women by high-school and college-age bands of males where the
rapists got off scott free. And point to the tens of thousands of
women raped by men every year in this country. And say WHAT THE
FUCKING FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU FUCKING FUCKS, YOU FUCKHEADS. THIS IS
FUCKING HAPPENING EVERY FUCKING DAY YOU EVIL PSYCHOPATHS. and it's
fucking considered fucking NORMAL you fucking FUCKS.

And this story was even fabricated.

Sorry. I'll continue with the transcription now.]

Barber: Pete, you know, you hear the Gay-Straight Alliance Network,
GLSTN, GLAAD, and these other groups, talking about bulling that's
occurring, supposedly, against self-identified homosexual kids, and
they say that we need to have safe schools, and we need to prevent
bullying. Well, my question is "where are they now?" When it does not
suit their radical political agenda, suddenly bullying is no longer a
problem. Why aren't they coming to the defense of these young girls
who are being sexually assaulted by these lesbian girls, it's
unbelievable!" [Editor's note: because the story was fake. And has
been disclaimed. But that doesn't matter.]

LaBarbera: "Right! And why are they talking about numbers, Matt? Can
you imagine if after Matt Shepard, Matthew Shepard, the homosexual
college kid was murdered, can you imagine if the Christian
conservative groups started saying, "well, it's only about one of
these a year, so this is no big deal." [Editor's note: I don't HAVE
to imagine: THEY SAID THIS. THEY SAID EXACTLY THIS. THEY SAID THIS
OVER AND OVER AGAIN. MATT SHEPARD WAS NO BIG DEAL. THEY STILL SAY IT.
Hopping CHRIST on a pogo stick!] "I mean, they're laughing at this,
and the way they operate in the media, GLAAD, it's pure intimidation.
They do not want anything that negatively reflects on homosexual
behaviour, or homosexuality itself, in the media. And so, I talked to
the TV producer in this Memphis TV station, he said they were
actually threatening a lawsuit if they aired the programme, but they
decided to air it because they said it was a good story, it was a
valid news story."

Barber: "Unbelievable. And the mainstream media is all too willing,
generally speaking, to be complicit and toe the liberal, pro-
homosexual line, so apparently if anyone - O'Reilly, or if this one
Memphis station step out of line, boy they - full force attack, slash
and burn. And it's striking to me that the mainstream media, Pete,
has not picked up on this. I mean, they have, they've spiked the
story, they've blacked it out. It's unbelievable." [Editor's note:
Because it was fake.]

LaBarbera: "Well, GLAAD's tactics work. GLAAD's thing is just be
aggressive all the time. Always be aggressive. And this is sort of
how the whole homosexual movement works, they're always on the
aggressive posturing, versus our side, which is always backing up.
Now here, you're right Matt, they've been talking about bullying for
years. And we, of course, oppose all sorts of bullying. I am
completely opposed to anybody who would bully a kid who was
identified as homosexual or bisexual, anybody who bullies a weak kid
is a weak person himself." [Editor's note: I have to inject here that
I listened to Concerned Women for America radio programmes urge that
parents throw self-identified GBLT teenagers - high school, middle
school, whatever - _out into the street_ all through the late 1990s.
And not let them back in or give any support _to their children_
until the kids declared themselves magically straight. And I heard
Beverly LaHaye herself support and congratulate a mother who called
her show having done so, but feeling bad about it. I heard this
myself. The lies here are fantastical.] "And so, we've always been
consistent, we're opposed to hatred and violence against
homosexuals." [Editor's note: I also used to listen to Bob Knight and
Beverely LaHaye talk in the 1990s about how violence against GBLT
people was a "normal and natural reaction" to "the perversion of
homosexuality." The lies here never stop, but I don't think there's a
_single goddamn sentence in this whole thing_ that isn't a lie.
Sorry. Continuing.] "But here we have this phenomenon of lesbian
bullying, and actually, Matt, since we tried to help this story get
some publicity, I've heard from people who said, look, you know, you
should look out, there's also a story in the fact that on some of
these sports teams, the lesbian athletes are bullying the
heterosexual girls. This also is something we're hearing about, but
there's no interest in these stories, because the media is deathly
afraid of alienating the powerful, and very vocal, homosexual lobby."

Barber: "And the silence from GLAAD and GLSTN and the GSA network and
all these other groups is deafening." [Editor's note: Again, the
O'Reilly story was a complete fabrication and was disowned by Mr.
O'Reilly.]

LaBarbera: "Yeah, and where's their concern for _people_?" [Ed. note:
Note how queers are not included in this use of "people."] "You know,
they're supposed to be helping these people who are victims of
discrimination, here we have real victims here, if there was even
five girls across the country who were raped by these lesbian gangs,
that's a terrible phenomenon that must be vetted by the big TV
stations, 20/20, Nightline, you know, this would be a huge story if
it were flipped around, and it was heterosexuals who were raping
homosexuals." [Editor's note: Do we even know where to start, here?
I've already ranted once, see above.]

Kleider: "Pete, I cannot imagine a school system that would turn a
blind eye to something like this, that would not have Federal funds
yanked. I mean, somebody in Congress would do something like that."

LaBarbera: "Right, and I'm sure there is great concern in the
schools, but what's so fascinating to me is where's the media? This
is where the media would normally see its role. You would see
something like this on 60 Minutes, And it's not a matter of whether
there's a thousand of these cases, a hundred, or five - the point is,
if there was one, like the Matthew Shepard case, which they use to
try to promote hate crimes legislation, that's where the media
normally sees its role as stirring people to action, to confront such
abuses."

Kleider: "Pete, what can parents do? How do you council young girls
going into junior high and high school to protect themselves and
prevent something like this, and what do you do if something like
this were to occur, if there were bullying or, god forbid, an actual
rape?"

LaBarbera: "Well, one thing it seems clear is you have to, I guess,
we're going to have to have discussions with our daughters about, you
know, there is the possibility of aggressive lesbian being a threat,
lesbianism being as much of a threat, or a threat, at least, like
there are abusive males. And this cannot be brushed under the rug.
You have to talk to your kids these days, and you have to talk to
them, unfortunately, about homosexual behaviour."

Kleider: [Prompts for promotion and copy of story]

LaBarbera: "We have the story, go to AmericansForTruth.org, and
scroll down to the story about the lesbian gang story, and then we
have a direct link to the Memphis TV report, which is just
fascinating, and it's so interesting that they tried to discredit it,
its main interview subject was an African American policewoman who is
a specialist in gang activity."

Homosexual Immorality: What’s the Debate?
Concerned Women for America
7/20/2007

http://www.cwfa.org/articles/13486/MEDIA/family/index.htm

Washington, D.C. — On August 9, MTV’s homosexual cable network, Logo,
is hosting the first-ever presidential debate intended to promote the
homosexual and transgender (gender identity disorder) lifestyles. All
major presidential candidates have been invited to participate. To
date, all Republican presidential candidates have declined, while all
major Democratic candidates have accepted. Those candidates who have
accepted are Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-New York), Sen. Barack Obama (D-
Illinois), former Sen. John Edwards (D-North Carolina), Sen.
Christopher Dodd (D-Connecticut), former Sen. Mike Gravel (D-Alaska),
and Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio).

Both Joe Solmonese, president of the homosexual “Human Rights
Campaign” and lesbian singer/activist Melissa Etheridge have been
selected as panelists.

Matt Barber, CWA’s Policy Director for Cultural Issues, said, “This
debate is clearly designed to advance the radical homosexual agenda
and to promote social and governmental acceptance and celebration of
the high-risk and destructive homosexual lifestyle.

“It’s disgraceful that our nation’s moral standards have now dipped
so low that it’s considered ‘tolerant’ to hold a debate organized
entirely around the promotion of sexual immorality. What’s next? Are
presidential candidates going to be asked to participate in a debate
on how to garner widespread acceptance of adultery or incest? Are
members of the growing polygamy lobby and the pedophile group NAMBLA
going to tap candidates for a televised debate to promote their
chosen lifestyles?

“Thousands of years of history, every major world religion, the
unambiguous science of human biology and good old fashioned common
sense have established that homosexual behaviors are both immoral and
destructive to the lives, health and spiritual well being of those
who choose to participate in those behaviors. For instance, the CDC
has recently determined that 71 percent of all males living with
deadly HIV/AIDS were infected with the disease through homosexual
behaviors,” said Barber, “Furthermore, the CDC has determined that
homosexuals — especially males — are by far at greatest risk for
nearly all forms of sexually transmitted disease as well as other
lifestyle related injuries. [Editor's note: Note how they ignore that
lesbians actually have much lower STD rates, and cover for it by
saying "especially males."]

“Will any of the presidential candidates bring up any of these facts
during the debate? Organizers are expecting them to fall all over
themselves trying to prove to the world who’s most sympathetic to the
left’s twisted version of ‘tolerance’ and ‘diversity.’ But there’s
nothing to debate here. These candidates should play it straight, so
to speak, and call it like it is. Immorality is immorality,”
concluded Barber.

Iraq War Vet “Spit On” by Democrat Senators
Concerned Women for America
7/26/2007

[Editor's note: Note how the headline is designed to create a false
image of vets being spat upon, as per the Vietnam legend. What's
really happening is that they aren't voting to confirm this judicial
nominee. The impression they want to create is "Democrat Senators
hate America and The Troops and spit on them to show it."]

http://www.cwfa.org/articles/13500/MEDIA/misc/index.htm

Washington, D.C. – Senate Democrats are blocking the nomination of
Judge Leslie Southwick for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth
Circuit. Rated “unanimously well-qualified” by the American Bar
Association, Judge Southwick sought an age waiver to serve in Iraq,
requesting to be sent to the most dangerous area. Yet liberal groups
have smeared Judge Southwick with unfounded accusations, and a few
Democrat senators are repeating them.

“Judge Southwick is a brave, considerate, intelligent American hero —
just the type of person that we need on the federal bench,” stated
Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America. “Yet liberal
special interest groups have unfairly smeared a good man — a war
veteran — for doing his constitutional duty of upholding the law and
serving in the war.

“Some Democrat senators have followed their lead, in effect spitting
on the reputation of this honorable judge and Iraq war veteran. Is
this what other Iraq War veterans will face when they return home?
Will their sacrifice, courage and honor be besmirched by people who
put their interests above the welfare of our country?”

Despite nearly 7,000 cases Judge Southwick ruled on during 12 years
on the Mississippi Court of Appeals, his critics found only two
opinions to criticize.

One involved a state employee’s one-time use of the “n-word.” The
court denounced the use of the word, however, recognizing the limits
of the law, ruled that the state cannot apply an “arbitrary, across-
the-board rule” in determining how to discipline that employee.

Judge Southwick’s deeds speak louder than the slurs against him.
LaVerne Ednae, an African-American attorney in a prominent
Mississippi law firm, stated that Judge Southwick gave her an
opportunity as a law clerk when few would. She said, “He saw that I
was qualified for the position and granted me the opportunity. … It
did not matter the party’s affiliation, culture or stature. What
mattered is what the law said, and Judge Southwick worked very hard
to apply it fairly. I have no doubt that he is fair, impartial and
has all of the other qualities necessary to be an excellent addition
to the Fifth Circuit.”

Southwick’s detractors also complain of the court’s use of the term
“homosexual lifestyle.” Yet Bill Clinton used “homosexual lifestyle”
while announcing his “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. Justice Ruth
Bader Ginsburg concurred with the majority decision in Lawrence v.
Texas which addressed the “homosexual lifestyle.”

Judge Southwick clerked for the Presiding Judge of the Texas Court of
Criminal Appeals and then for Judge Charles Clark of the U.S. Fifth
Circuit Court of Appeals. He was an associate in a Jackson law firm
from 1977 to 1983 and a partner from 1983 to 1989. From 1985-86, he
was a member of the Governor's Constitution Study Commission.

Judge Southwick became a Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the
U.S. Department of Justice (Civil Division) in 1989. In 1994, Judge
Southwick was elected one of the first ten judges on the Court of
Appeals. He has remained on the court except for a military leave of
absence from August 2004 to January 2006. In 2005, he served as the
Deputy, and then as the Staff Judge Advocate, for the 155th Brigade
Combat team in Iraq.

Bill Introduced to Protect Children from Broadcast Indecency
Concerned Women for America
7/18/2007

http://www.cwfa.org/articles/13470/MEDIA/family/index.htm

Washington, D.C. — Tomorrow the Senate Commerce Committee will
discuss a bill to allow the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
to prohibit the use of indecent images and profanity on broadcast
television during times of the day when children and families are
most likely the audience. The Protecting Children From Indecent
Programming Act was introduced by Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-West
Virginia) after an outcry from Americans fed up with offensive
material on broadcast networks.

Shari Rendall, CWA’s Director of Legislation and Public Policy, said,
“Violence and inappropriate language have reached epidemic
proportions on television. A recent poll conducted by the Associated
Press shows that about 70 percent of people said there is too much
violence on television. Broadcast television needs to be held
accountable for the programming that is being put on the screen. The
quality of television is no longer as ‘family oriented’ as it once
was. Today’s prime time television has become unsuitable for families
and is often against their values, making it impossible for families
to watch programming together.”

CWA President Wendy Wright commented, “CWA members have activated the
‘V-chip’ on their televisions to see what it would filter out,
selecting nothing above PG. They report that from 6:30 p.m. on there
was no signal capable of being shown on TV. This means that nothing
on broadcast television was appropriate for a PG audience. As one
member noted, ‘That was a real eye opener. … I knew it was bad, but
didn’t realize that on broadcast TV there would be no sitcoms, drama,
etc. that could be shown.’ Americans deserve better than this, but
broadcast networks will not provide it unless the government protects
Americans from indecent images and profanity.”

GAY ACTIVISTS TRY TO STOP TV NEWS STORY
Faith and Freedom Network
Friday, July 20, 2007

http://www.faithandfreedom.us/weblog/2007/07/gay-activists-try-to-
stop-tv-news-story.html

The Gay And Liesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has
apparently threatened to sue a Tennessee TV station for airing a
report on lesbian gangs attacking students.

Focus on the Family was told by the station manager that they had
agreed to rewrite some of the story, but that still did not satisfy
the activists.

We also spoke to the station and from what I heard, airing the story
was not a pleasant experience.

There has actually been a blacklash against some of the reporters at
the Memphis station from members of the homosexual community.

The story featured an interview with Shelby County Gang Unit
specialist, Beverly Cobb, who said, "Girls are being attacked in high
school bathrooms by members of a gang called GTO or 'Gays Taking Over.'"

Cobb said in the television story that,"They are forcing themselves
on our young girls in all our schools."

Other similar stories are being reported in a number of other cities.

Peter LaBarbara, with Americans For Truth, said the station manager
told him the group definitely did not want the story to run.

Both WPTY in Memphis and the Fox News program, The O'Reilly Factor
carried the report. [Ed. Note: Bill O'Reilly has disclaimed the
story. As above.]

Gay Times in WA State
Faith and Freedom Network
Monday, July 23, 2007

http://www.faithandfreedom.us/weblog/2007/07/gay-times-in-wa-state.html

As homosexuals lined up today to register as “domestic partners,” the
celebratory attitude displayed in the Governor’s office a while back
when she signed the bill into law seems to have changed.

Gregoire, with hands in the air, declared the day a victory. The
benefits that homosexuals had been denied were now provided – or are
they?

It seems the message changed from that day forward and has now become
a mantra.

“No,” they say, “we didn’t want faux marriage, we want the real thing.”

Ed Murray is quoted by Rachel La Corte of the Associated Press, “When
it comes to gay and lesbian issues, change is coming at the state
level." David Ammons, of the AP, says that according to Murray, the
gay community isn’t much interested in civil unions as a next step;
they are going for full marriage equality. Equal Rights Washington
echoes that sentiment. They say an interim step would only serve to
detract from the ultimate goal.

There is nothing much that is new in that. That’s what they always
say – and they mean it.

I was, however, surprised and disappointed at the comment of one
former Christian lobbyist told the AP he thought it “looks like a
losing battle.” (Click here to read story).

I agree with him that there is a culture shift but I do not agree
that, “The likelihood of a turnaround is very remote.”

If God’s people pray and humble themselves, God promises to heal
their land.

This is truly a watershed time in this state. Washington will either
join Massachusetts as a leader in homosexual endorsement or we will
decide to take a position to uphold and affirm the most important
societal building block in human history – the family, built around
marriage between one man and one woman.

Accountability is a good thing
Faith and Freedom Network
Tuesday, July 24, 2007

http://www.faithandfreedom.us/weblog/2007/07/accountability-is-good-
thing.html

Dishonest politicians is not a new idea. In fact, books have been
written and movies made about the subject. Those folks don’t like
accountability.

However, there are good, honest, truthful public servants as well. We
all know some of them. But sometimes our elected officials say one
thing, but do something else.

Representative Mike Pence, R-Ind. decided to see where his colleagues
really stood on abortion. Last week he offered an amendment to the
U.S. House Appropriations bill that funds the Departments of Labor
and Health and Human Services, that would have prohibited tax dollars
from funding Planned Parenthood.

The vote and some of the explanations were pretty telling. I’ll come
back to that in a moment.

But, it got me thinking about some of our elected officials in
Washington State. What if we, say, put an initiative before the House
and/or Senate that would require our elected officials to vote yes or
no (or be absent or abstain) affirming DOMA? Senators Murray,
Moeller, and others have made it clear that they are not interested
in “faux” marriage for homosexuals, (domestic partners, civil unions
and the like); they want the real thing – just like the
heterosexuals. I wonder who else would go on the record voting for
homosexual marriage along with these folks?

Most of us know there are some real champions of traditional – one
man, one woman marriage in our legislature. And most of us know who
they are. But what about those folks in-between?

That may be worth pursuing.

When tolerance = censorship
Faith and Freedom Network
Wednesday, July 25, 2007

http://www.faithandfreedom.us/weblog/2007/07/when-tolerance-
censorship.html

It happens. And it is happening with more frequency.

A school teacher at Montgomery County, Maryland’s Thomas S Wootton
High School, has said that a group that supports people trying to
leave homosexuality is, “like the KKK but only in the form of religion.”

The teacher wrote an email, using a school-issued email account,
telling parents of PFOX (Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays)
that she was upset about their distributing fliers to students even
though the parents were in compliance with school policy. In fact,
she was so upset that she said, “Stay out of our schools and leave
our children alone.”

Our schools?

Our children?

So much for “tolerance.”

Montgomery County public school district is introducing a pro-gay
curriculum in all its middle and high schools this fall.

The teacher also happens to be the co-sponsor of the high school’s
Gay-Straight Alliance Club.

[...]

While tolerance rules in the classroom, intolerance rules in the main
lobby of the school where school personnel set-up trash cans with
PFOX’s name on them, encouraging kids to throw the PFOX fliers in the
trash. [Editor's note: PFOX is an "ex-gay" evangelical group.]

And what was the message on the flier? It encouraged kids who were
struggling with same-sex attractions that change is possible.
