[Sksouth-l] Whoa Nelly, get me the heck outta here

Station opened on schedule and this week has been much
harder than I thought it would. Usually we have a big
opening day and then a quiet week while winterovers
adjust and new folks settle in - not this year. Full
on, right away. Whooo! Even with a great, returning
guy to replace me and a new but very sharp and
enthusiastic Helpdesk guy, we have been slammed with
user support every day. And the truth is, I'm not up
to handling it gracefully. The new folks are very
excited about being here, even returning folks who are
over the novelty aspect want to get working right
away, and it's just a standard IT deal that anybody
who's having problems (even my friends!) tends to turn
up with a mildly hostile attitude. I'm not dealing
with that very well. I'm not dealing with long lines
in the galley or waiting for sink time in the bathroom
very well. But I'm dealing, I haven't cussed anybody
out yet although I've turned and walked away from a
couple of people. Sometimes I'm ok and sometimes I
just want people to get the heck out of my space. I've
handed my desk over to Dave now (yay Dave!) and I'm
typing awkwardly on a laptop on the workbench in the
parts storeroom. Most folks don't find me here and
there is no telephone.
I'll be heading out to the skiway soon to say goodbye
to the biggest single flight of departing winterovers
- 25 on this plane. I wish I were going with them but
I just haven't had enough time for turnover. I'm
scheduled for Monday so spare me a thought in favor of
good weather, ok?
Best,
-Sarah
